How should I store the battery of my e-bike?
Shimano’s special guide for batteries provides the following advice regarding long-term storage:
- If you are not going to use your bicycle for an extended period, store it so that the battery charge level is around 70%.
- Recharge the battery every six months to ensure it does not become completely discharged.
- Store the battery, or the bicycle with the battery attached, in cool indoor conditions, away from direct sunlight and rain (approximately 10–20 °C).
- If the storage temperature is too low or too high, the battery’s performance will deteriorate, and its lifespan will be shortened.
- When bringing the battery back into use after a long storage period, charge it first.
The operating temperature for the battery is specified as -10 to 50 °C, and the charging temperature as 0 to 40 °C. Based on this information, the battery can also be stored outdoors in the bicycle for shorter periods.
