Do Helkama e-bikes require insurance?
Helkama e-bikes don’t require a separate insurance policy. Most e-bikes on the market are classified as electrically assisted bicycles, and this includes all Helkama e-bikes.
The motor of an electrically assisted bicycle has a maximum power of 250 W, and the electric assistance switches off when the bicycle reaches a speed of 25 km/h. Without pedaling, electrically assisted bikes can travel up to 6 km/h using what is known as a starting assist. The weight of the e-bike is not relevant if the other conditions are met.
Electrically assisted bicycles are covered by home insurance and don't require traffic insurance. You can read more about the topic here.
