Can I install battery-powered lights on an eMTB- or eFat-bike?

A front light powered by the e-bike’s battery can be easily installed on Helkama e-bikes that do not come with factory-installed headlights. Helkama electric bikes are compatible with
6–12 V e-bike lights.

All Helkama e-bikes are factory-programmed so that the light ports are enabled, meaning the light can be powered on without any additional programming. By default, the bike’s battery does not reserve power for the light, so this does not affect the battery’s range.

A power cable for the front light is pre-installed and threaded inside the protective hose for the front cables of the bike; you only need to connect the power cable to the front light. We recommend visiting a qualified bike shop for the connection. The connection should be protected from the weather, for example, with heat shrink tubing.

Not all bike displays or selector switches come with a light switch. For the Shimano Gen.2 electric system, the function button integrated into the frame, located below the main power switch and closer to the rider, is programmed as the light switch.

If your bike does not have a dedicated light switch, the lights can be turned on from the display menu. Instructions for navigating the menu can be found in the Shimano display user manual.
