Can I determine the manufacturing date based on the frame number?
The manufacturing date of frames produced at the Helkama factory in Hanko can be interpreted from the frame number as follows. Frame production in Hanko ended in 2009. The frame number of a frame made in Hanko always consists of two letters and four numbers. The first letter of the frame number indicates the year of manufacture, but you must already know the decade. The second letter indicates the month. Below is a list of the letters for interpretation purposes.
- A = xxx0 or January
- B = xxx1 or February
- C = xxx2 or March
- D = xxx3 or April
- E = xxx4 or May
- F = xxx5 or June
- G = xxx6 or July
- H = xxx7 or August
- I = - September (the letter I was not used for the year)
- J = xxx8 or October
- K = xxx9 or November
- L = - December
Other than the frame's manufacturing date, no additional information can be obtained from the frame number. If the bicycle is of a newer model year, the frame number does not reveal any information about the bicycle at all.
